Her activism is fueled by the horrifying incidents of violence against women that she has witnessed. Yukti recalls the “Nirbhaya” incident from 2012, which left a deep impact on her. The fear of being harmed by the “beastly” men hiding in society is something that Yukti and countless other women live with daily. She shares her thoughts on how women’s safety is compromised at every turn, making them feel like they are constantly under danger. For Yukti, the thought of her mother’s safety has become as important as her own, highlighting the widespread anxiety that women in India suffer. Dzire News: You have been very vocal about women’s safety. What drives your activism?
Yukti Singh : The driving force behind my activism is the realization that women in our society are not safe. Every time I hear about incidents like the Nirbhaya case or other horrific crimes against women, I feel a deep sense of anger and helplessness. Women have achieved so much in every field, yet they are still treated as objects. This is unacceptable, and I believe we need stronger laws and a complete change in societal attitudes to ensure women’s safety.
Dzire News: What changes would you like to see in society regarding women’s rights?
Yukti Singh : I want to see a society where women are truly free, where they can walk the streets without fear, and where their achievements are celebrated, not overshadowed by the constant threat of violence. We need immediate justice for crimes against women, and we must change the mindset that blames women for the violence they face. Women’s safety should be a priority, and everyone, including the government, should work towards creating a safe environment for all.People say that our safety is in our own hands, and they are absolutely right. But sometimes, you should also do something that makes us feel safe. Sometimes, you should also create an environment where we feel safe. Sometimes, you should also have a mindset that makes us feel safe.
Dzire News: How do you deal with the fear and challenges you face as a woman?
Yukti Singh : The fear is always there, but I try to stay strong. My father taught me to be cautious, and I follow his advice. I make sure that my mother and I are always careful when we go out. However, the real challenge is dealing with the mentality of those who see women as objects. It is disgusting how some people justify their actions by blaming women’s clothing or behavior. We need to change this thinking if we want to see any real progress.”Sometimes, I imagine and wish for an India where the law is not blind but has open eyes. A law that gives quick justice and such a punishment that if anyone even thinks of doing something cruel, their soul would shake”. I also have work at night, and like me, many girls and women do night shifts. Safety is the most important thing whenever we go to work, go out, or do anything at night. After hearing and knowing about all these cases, I now wonder if I can safely go somewhere at night, if I can live freely. Who knows, there might be dangerous people hiding at every corner. I, and other girls like me, want to feel safe at our workplaces, to work with energy when we step out at night, and to be excited about what we are doing, not filled with fear. I don’t know when that day will come when we girls, daughters, and women can go out at night without fear, but this wish and hope just stay in my heart.I want to live like a free bird, but at every turn, there are people waiting to clip my wings—some silence me with words, and others with actions.

Yukti Singh is not just a model or an actor; she is a voice for change. Her journey is a evidence to what women can achieve when they have the courage to stand up for themselves and others. Yukti’s work as a social activist is great in a society that still struggles with gender equality and women’s safety. Her message is clear: women deserve respect, freedom, and the right to live without fear. Through her words and actions, Yukti Singh continues to inspire and fight for a better, safer world for women.
