Darshan Thoogudeepa, born on February 16, 1977, in Ponnampet, Karnataka, comes from a family connected to the film industry. His father, Thoogudeepa Srinivas, was a well-known Kannada actor who contributed greatly to the industry. Following his father’s path, Darshan entered the film industry in 1997 with the movie ‘Mahabharatha’. However, it was the 2001 film ‘Majestic’ that brought him real fame. Over the years, Darshan starred in many blockbuster movies like ‘Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna’ and ‘Sarvanan’. His fan following is huge, and he is often called Karnataka’s ‘Challenging Star’.
Darshan’s life has been full of controversies. The biggest controversy came in 2011 when he was blamed of assaulting his wife, Vijayalakshmi. This case created a huge buzz in the Kannada film industry and the media. Darshan was arrested and sent to jail for a while. In the video, Darshan is seen sitting comfortably in a separate room with special food and other privileges.
After the video and picture goes viral, people and the media were offended. Many believe that this is a insult of the law and justice system. Social media was flooded with angry reactions, and many demanded an investigation into the matter. Although the jail administration denied any special treatment, the public and media remain doubted.
This sparked widespread anger, immediate Karnataka’s Home Minister to take an action.Seven jail officials were suspended as a result of the investigation, with additional inquiries started. The Chief Minister has also ordered Darshan’s transfer to another prison to prevent further controversies. The public anger has been loud, with many questioning the fairness of the justice system, particularly in high-profile cases involving celebrities.
The public’s reaction to the this has been one of anger and disappointment. Many feel that Darshan is receiving excess privileges because of his fame. The father of the dead, Kashinath S Shivanagowdru, has been vocal in his demand for a thorough investigation, even suggesting that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
